In Patch 2.4.3 Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom, decided to lower the level restrictions for riding skill from level 40 down to level 30. Now for many people leveling alts (or their 5th alt) this was an excellent, yet unexpected change and for the most part, people seemed generally happy about it. But how would this change affect classes that get a Travel Form like Druids and Shamans?Back when getting your mount at 40 was a big deal, not to mention a huge expense, Travel Forms gave druids and shamans a nice little bonus for a few levels until you could save up enough cash for your riding training. That training cost upwards of 100g, which by today's standards doesn't seem like very much, but it was a huge expense at the time. On my first toon, I don't think I had saved up enough gold for my mount until I was level 43 or so. In any case, Shamans could learn Ghost Wolf at level 20 and Druids received Travel Form 10 levels later at 30 giving both classes a 40% increase over running speed.
When Blizzard dropped the riding skill level requirement to 30 it seems that they didn't think it all the way through. The whole reason for giving travel forms at level 20/30 was to give those classes a boost before they learned their faster riding skill. What is the use of a travel form that's 20% slower than mount speed now that you can learn them at the same level? Duh?
Here's a simple way to fix it Blizzard. Drop the druid's travel form down to level 20 to be equal with the shaman's ghost wolf, and give each the ability to scale with your riding skill. That would give both classes a 40% speed travel form for 10 levels, then give them the option of using that form in place of a normal mount if they so choose. If you don't like the idea of travel forms being the same speed as a normal mount, then add a small penalty like "90% of Riding Skill". If I can come up with this so easily, why can't Blizzard?
